A CFD simulation, of an injector valve for automotive application

Di Meo Alfonso - Magneti Marelli Powertrain

Abstract

For some modeling application as one-dimensional modeling, it is useful to understand the behaviour of fluid into hydraulic components and determine parameters as flow rate or coefficient discharge that are expressions of real behaviour of the fluid.

For this aim, it is possible follows the experimental way or the computer simulation way.

In this work, it is presented an application that simulates motion of the fluid into an hydraulic circuit of an injector component.

The aim of this work is reached with a CAD software Pro/engineer and CAE software ICEM CFD and CFX10.

The CFD tridimensional model utilizes an homogeneous multiphase Rayleigh Plesset model, with a mean diameter of nucleation equal to 2 [μm], to find the region where cavitation occurs. With this model it is possible determines stream line and understand if geometry is corrects, the velocity field, pressure field and the flow rate with cavitation.

The model works in a static condition, with a geometrical configuration and boundary pressure condition fixed; at lift value of the shutter fixed and outlet pressure to the atmospheric value it calculates the flow rate for different inlet pressure.
