ANSYS structural and CFD HPC performances compared on new quad core processors on large clusters

Perna Gino - EnginSoft

Abstract

Quietly but surely, we are heading into a new computing era that will bring one of the most dramatic changes the IT industry has ever seen.

Acceleration technologies will inject lots of horsepower into the CPU, increasing the performance capability of the microprocessor not just by 10 or 20%, but in some cases by up to 10x. These new technologies, which are expected to become widely available through heterogeneous multi-core processors, create challenges for software developers.

The new Quad-core CPU's, both Intel and AMD, have been videly tested for both structural and CFD solutions of ANSYS products, on a large cluster to review performances and weak links of the applications and of the hardware.

The results of this survey will be presented in the article.
