Abstract

FEM ANALYSIS and related measurement made by I.N.F.N. Milano Design department to study the design for the upgrade of the Pixel Detector for the Atlas experiment on the LHC at CERN.
The structure has a carbon fiber laminate support with carbon fiber cooling pipes and carbon foam, on which electronic modules are attached, that has high thermal conductivity with low density and thus having a radiation length very attractive for the detector.
Coolant fluid should be boiling CO2 at -40°C and 100 bar design pressure or Fluorocarbon, with maximum leak rate 10- 7 atm.cc/s of He. Integrated design dose 5 MGy.
