Abstract

An intake valve design robustness has been assessed by a fatigue analysis, taking into account both thermal and mechanical stresses. Both kinds of stress have been evaluated by FEM analyses using the ANSYS/Workbench environment. The thermal stress analysis has been fed with the results of a transient thermal one, set up with convective data coming from CFD simulations. The mechanical stresses have been computed importing load data generated by a subsystem-level dynamic analysis of the timing mechanism.
