LS-DYNA is a well-known solver in the area of car crash simulation and occupant safety. In this paper the actual trends and recent developments in these two areas are presented.
Recent achievements in efficiency and accuracy of the methodologies applied in both explicit and implicit regime are shown. Also in the field of fluid dynamics and fluid-structure coupling new solver capabilities have been implemented in version 980. Both for compressible and incompressible flows solutions schemes can be applied. Also a new method based on a PFEM (Particle FEM) approach will be shown, which is well suited for fluid-structure-coupling problems and fluid problems involving free surfaces. An update on the status of dummy modeling for frontal, side and rear impact will give an overview on the recent developments in the area of occupant safety analysis with LS-DYNA.
