The optimization of the Francis runner geometry for a new power plant is described.
Starting from an existing model, a complete turbine steady CFD simulation using CFX was performed in order to point out the areas of intervention for a possible efficiency increase.
The bowing technique was applied to the runner blades design to control the secondary flows through the hydraulic interblades channels.
Fluid dynamics optimization of new blade profiles was reached using ANSYS CFX. in terms of total pressure loss.
Finally, a complete model unsteady calculation was performed on the new geometry at design point to analyze
pressure fluctuations into the discharge cone. |
